Ann Booker Mackey

SAVANNAH - Ann Booker Mackey, of Savannah, died on Nov 9, 2016 at the age of 87. She was born  in Savannah on Nov 25, 1928 to Elfrieda Schroeder Booker and Joseph Amos Booker Sr. She was predeceased by her husband of 62 years, H. Lance Mackey Jr., her sister Elfrieda Booker Hendrix and her brother Joseph A. Booker Jr. The oldest of five children, she is survived by her brothers Stephen W. Booker and Randal S Booker, her son H. Lance Mackey, III and daughter China Brooks Kimbrell, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She graduated from Fassifern School for Girls, a noted preparatory school in Henderson, NC that strived to turn out "Perfect young ladies, accomplished with personality, charm, and graciousness" and who would follow the Fassifern Girls creed to "Look up, and laugh, and love, and lift." Ann embodied all of those qualities and more.

She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension, where seven generations of her family have been baptized. She was happily married for 62 years to her college sweetheart that she met in her freshman year at Armstrong College in Savannah. There she and Lance began double dating with Caroline Lord and Gene Wilson and the two couples remained lifelong friends, the four of them celebrating their 60th anniversary together on a cruise.

She was very entertaining and told witty and wonderful stories from her varied careers. She worked in the ad department at Coca Cola in Atlanta during the "Mad Men" era, for WSAV television in Savannah after that, and later became The Secretary to the Chatham County Commissioner, a job she was most proud of.

She was patriotic and proud to be a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the DAC, as well as many other civic organizations. She was a great event organizer and was made president of the Garden Club.  She loved to play bridge, and to dance and belonged many social clubs.

She was a dominant force, filled with love and wanted the best for all and her family. She believed in looking good, hosting well, being generous and loved presiding over her family with a great story. She will be missed.

Visitation will be on Sunday November 13, 2016 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel at 4605 US Hwy 80 East, Savannah. The funeral service will be held on Monday November 14, 2016 at 10:00 am at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of the Ascension at 120 Bull Street, Savannah, Ga.
